My eBay love affair has gone through many phases. At times I'll go for months without ever going to the site, then other times I'll have 5 items selling and another 5 I'm bidding on. So I've been in a bidding kind of mood lately so I go over to eBay and I'm quickly reminded why I love it. Fabulous designer names at really great prices. I just won an auction on a pair of authentic See by Chloe wide-leg jeans for $24.99...I'm bidding on a beautiful Marc by Marc Jacobs dress that's at $42.00 right now. I do however have eBay rules...
1. I NEVER...EVER buy handbags on eBay! No matter how trusted the seller is, I'm so afraid of fakes I always go straight to the source for my handbags.
2. I always read feedback, it sounds simple but it tells you a lot about a seller.
3. I set a price for myself before I place the first bid. I find that if I don't do this I can easily get caught up in the fast and furious bidding wars. I cannot deny bidding is fun but it can get out of control. When I first started shopping on eBay I would take it personally when someone outbidded me and tried to win all bidding wars. Only problem is, you end up paying way more than you wanted or in some cases, more than the item is even worth!
As far as selling, I've found that taking things to my local consignment shop is a little easier than eBay. No taking/uploading pictures...no weirdo buyer from the Netherlands begging for a discount because they really want to buy my Uggs but can't afford the shipping (WTF?!?). I've found an upscale consignment shop in Capitol Hill that I take some items (Coach shoes and bags, Lacoste, Juicy Couture, etc.) and a "take anything" consignment store for my other stuff (Nine West shoes, anything Gap, etc.) I've taken about 3 bags total to the 2 stores and made $140...not too bad. It's not a windfall but I'll take it!
UPDATE: I'm about to win an auction on an Anna Sui for Anthropologie dress!! Yay me!
